That shock, defeat courtesy of a beautiful left uppercut, wrecked Whyte’s dream of a shot at the winner of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 for the WBC world heavyweight title, and now his very career at the top is under threat.
A win would see him regain his spot as WBC mandatory contender, but would give no guarantee of when his title shot may come. Last time he waited more than 1000 days for his chance before falling at the very last hurdle.
Whyte vs Povetkin 2: Date and time
These two went head-to-head on August 22 at the Matchroom HQ as Povetkin claimed his stunning win.
They were set to meet again in a 12-round heavyweight contest on Saturday, November 21 at Wembley Arena in London but that date had to scrapped.
The fight night will begin on Saturday, January 30 at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT.
With no other fights on the horizon, Whyte is prepared to wait for the WBC interim heavyweight champion and a new date is being pencilled in for Saturday, January 30, 2021.
The professional boxing match will be held at the London Arena in London, United Kingdom.

Povetkin vs Whyte 2 will be aired live on pay-per-view in the UK by Sky Sports Box Office, with pricing yet to be announced by the broadcaster.
Streaming platform DAZN will show Whyte vs Povetkin in the United States as part of its relationship with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. There is no news yet on which other DAZN markets will show the bout (the service is currently live also in Canada, Germany, Japan, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Austria and Switzerland).
